Veterans Trek is an effort between two Operation Iraqi Freedom Veterans, Tom and Anthony, to walk from Milwaukee to Los Angeles.
We are doing this in an effort to do a few things. First, we want to raise money and awareness for Dryhootch. Our goal is to raise 100,000 dollars for them in the build up to and during our journey. Second, we want to raise awareness of Veteran issues here in America. Yes, we all know we have been involved in wars. Yes, we all know we have Veterans in this country. Yes, we all know some Veterans are struggling today. Ask yourself, ask friends, ask coworkers what some of those issues are and then guess how many Veterans are influenced by the issues. Most people have no idea because most never serve, but we all benefit from the service of military members and Veterans provide. It’s time we start paying attention. It’s past the time we need to begin to act. Last, we want to do something that is atypical, intriguing, fun (hopefully), and for a good cause.
So, on August 30, 2013, Tom and I will leave from the Milwaukee County War Memorial in downtown Milwaukee and head West–at least we hope we head West, otherwise we will be in Lake Michigan and the trip will start off on the wrong foot. Please join us for a send-off ceremony at 750 N Lincoln Memorial Dr. Tom and I leave, rain or shine (shine, please) at 10am. Please check in for updates. Please consider checking our needs list and donating what you see we need, please hit the donate button and help sponsor us!
